What most people think: Calling someone Pollyanna insinuates that the recipient of this moniker is too naive and maybe a little stupid. Most likely Thomas Edison would have been considered a bit of a Pollyanna.
What really happened: A young girl arrives in a town where people are miserable and unhappy. Assuming the best of everyone, Pollyanna has soon changed the entire town into a group of good-natured people. QUITE AN ACCOMPLISHMENT, in my opinion.
